"Lite" License
Any user is welcome to run DT Nexus in Lite mode. This is the state the software will default to if it has no license, or if it cannot reach the license server to renew its activation for more than 100 days or the date the license is set to expire (whichever is shorter).
This is a completely free mode and allows control of DT Stellar lighting, Image Quality, DT Fusion Processing (but not DT Fusion Capture), and Capture Trigger (to support use of Flash mode with DT Stellar lighting).
The more advanced features of DT Nexus such as AI Crop & Straighten, Color Profiling, and Sequencer can be previewed using the 90-day Trial license assigned to any new user, and unlocked by purchase of a Standard License.
Standard License
Standard licenses can be purchased via the website or can be sold via PO by contacting a Digital Transitions account representative. They are scoped to your organization. An organization admin or admins (typically your IT lead or DT point of contact) manages seats, member access, and machines.

Purchasing a Standard License
- Sign in at nexus.digitaltransitions.com.
- On your dashboard, click Buy or extend (or navigate to Account → Licenses & Billing).
- Choose a plan:
- Standard Yearly ($1,950/seat/year) — charged automatically each year, renews until cancelled.
- Extend 1 Year ($1,950/seat) — one-time payment that adds one year to your existing license; no auto-renewal.
- Add Standard License ($1,950/seat) — one-time payment for a fresh one year license; no auto-renewal.
- Enter your payment details. Card details are tokenized by Authorize.net and never stored on DT servers.
- For monthly subscriptions, enter your cardholder first and last name.
- Click Subscribe or Purchase. Your license is provisioned immediately and you receive a confirmation email.
Standard licenses are always personal — they are attached to your account, not an organization. They cannot be transferred to another account.
Subscription Management
If you are on a monthly subscription, you can manage it from the dashboard:
- View renewal date: The "Licenses & Billing" panel shows the next billing date and plan name.
- Cancel subscription: Click "Cancel subscription" on the dashboard. A confirmation prompt warns you that future charges stop but your license remains active until the current period expires. Cancellation is immediate — you will receive a confirmation email.
- After cancellation: Your license continues to work until the expiry date shown on the dashboard. After that, the app falls back to Lite mode.
Seats and Machine Activation
A Standard license has a seat count determined at the time of purchase. Each workstation running DT Nexus consumes one seat when the app starts and validates against your license.
- Seat in use = a machine that has been activated and is sending regular heartbeats to the license server.
- Seat freed = you or your org admin deactivates a machine in the DT Nexus dashboard.
- If all seats are occupied, additional machines cannot activate until a seat is freed.
To view seat usage: Log in to nexus.digitaltransitions.com, go to your dashboard. The Licenses & Billing panel shows your org's seat count and which machines are active.
To deactivate a machine (free a seat): Org admins and tech members can deactivate machines from the dashboard's machine list. Standard members can view the list but cannot deactivate.
License Duration, Expiry, and Renewal
Standard licenses are provisioned for 1 year (365 days). You will receive email reminders before expiry.
What happens at expiry: The desktop app falls back to Lite mode (Light Control and Validation only). No data is lost. Contact Digital Transitions to renew.
If you are on a subscription, you can manage it from the dashboard:
- View renewal date: The "Licenses & Billing" panel shows the next billing date and plan name.
- Cancel subscription: Click "Cancel subscription" on the dashboard. A confirmation prompt warns you that future charges stop but your license remains active until the current period expires. Cancellation is immediate — you will receive a confirmation email.
- After cancellation: Your license continues to work until the expiry date shown on the dashboard. After that, the app falls back to Lite mode.
Fusion Capture Add-On
DT Fusion produces a more faithful digital surrogate of the original object by improving color accuracy, especially for challenging materials. It does this by combining white-light and blue-light captures using a method pioneered at Rochester Institute of Technology by Dr. Roy Berns. This requires DT Stellar or DT Gemini lights and requires a separate paid add-on license, which must be purchased via PO. Please contact DT for more information.
Note that any license of Capture One can Export Fusion pairs to TIFFs. This means that your Fusion Captures are never "locked away" if your license expires. You can always export (or re-export) Fusion images; you just can't capture new Fusion images without an active Fusion license.
Organization Members and Roles
Your organization in DT Nexus has members with one of three roles:
Role | Can view license | Can deactivate machines | Can manage membership |
|---|---|---|---|
Admin | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
Tech | ✓ | ✓ | — |
Operator | ✓ | — | — |
Joining an org: When an org admin invites you by email, you receive an invitation email with a link to set your password (if you don't already have an account) and sign in. This invitation automatically extends the organization's license to you.
Your org's license on your dashboard: If you are a member of an org, the dashboard shows your org's Standard license under "Licenses & Billing", including the org name, expiry, seat usage, and entitlements.
Email Notifications
When | Email you receive |
|---|---|
License created / renewed | "Your DT Nexus License" with key and sign-in instructions |

Enterprise licenses do not renew automatically. Your DT salesperson will be in touch to arrange your renewal. You will receive expiry reminders on the 30/6/1 day schedule above if you have not renewed by those times.
Getting Help
Standard licenses come with unlimited phone and screenshare support in addition to email. Contact Digital Transitions at digitaltransitions.com/dt-support.
Corporate Firewalls
Extensive work was done in version 1.2 to accommodate a wide range of corporate network setups that could interfere with activating version 1.1 or earlier. In addition a "Test Connection" button was added to the activation screen which provides diagnostic information; if you still see any issues activating Nexus on your corporate network please use that button and email [email protected] and we will do our very best to accommodate your network.
Offline and Grace Period
DT Nexus is designed to work reliably even when your internet connection is intermittent:
- If the license server is unreachable (timeout, network error), the app uses your cached license from the last successful validation. Features remain fully unlocked.
- If you are signed in and the DT Nexus API is unreachable (e.g. traveling, no internet), your login session remains valid for up to the duration of your remaining license plus one day, or up to 100 days, whichever is shorter. Having an internet connection at the time you launch DT Nexus will reset this period.
Account and Password
- Change email or password: Sign in → Account (top-right menu) → Account Settings.
- Confirm your email: In the case that you do not get the email link to confirm the validity of your email address you can call DT and we can manually confirm your email address.
- Forgot password: On the sign-in screen, click "Forgot password". Enter your email. If an account exists, you'll receive a reset link. If no account is found, you will see a clear message with options to sign up or try a different email.
Getting Help (Standard)
Standard includes email support. Training is not included with a Standard license but can be purchased from DT. Contact Digital Transitions at digitaltransitions.com/dt-support.
