Sharing Images with DT
When you use AI Crop to crop an image, the processing happens entirely locally. The model, the image, the processing, and the resulting crop reside only on your computer. Your images never leave your computer and AI Crop does not use them to train or refine the model.
However, if you volunteer to do so, you can explictly volunteer your images to be used for future AI model training and testing. Doing this greatly increases the chance that similar material will work in the future. This can be done using DropBox or any other file sharing method that works for you. Again, unless you actively choose to share your files to DT using such a file service your images will not be be used to train the model.
As of December 2025 we are especially interested in :
- Inset Materials: diverse collections of matted photographs, framed paintings, scrap books, contact sheets, microfiche and other "inset" material where the area of interest is one or more rectangles inside a larger outer rectangle.
- Film and Other Transmissive Materials: 35mm film, 35mm slides, medium format film, aerial film, large format sheet film, glass plates, lantern slides, slide film, biological specimens, and other material where the region of interest is on material that is transilluminated (lit from behind).

Institutions like the US Library of Congress, University of Western Australia, the National Library of Sweden, and the Swiss National Library have all volunteered large number of images in this manner; their generous contributions have made it possible for thousands of digitation technicians to spend less time cropping and straightening their images. Moreover, by contributing from their collection they ensure the tool works especially well for their institution.

Using Some Other Method
While we do prefer the methods above, we are very glad to receive files by hard drive, Amazon S3, Google Drive or just about any other method that works for you. Please contact Doug Peterson to arrange it.
